Registration Open for Training on Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) for Sugar Mills in India

Emerging human rights due diligence (HRDD) regulations are reshaping buyer expectations across global supply chains. Indian sugar mills face increasing pressure to identify, prevent and address human rights risks within their operations and extended supply chains. The Sustainable Sugar Platform in India (SSPI), under its capacity building work pillar, aims to equip sugar mills with practical knowledge, tools and action plans to operationalise HRDD.

Sustainable Sugar Platform in India (SSPI) is a collaborative, industry-supported initiative and program of the Centre for Child Rights and Business, that promotes and supports responsible business practices within India’s sugar supply chain.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The key objectives of the training are to:

• Equip sugar mills with practical tools to implement HRDD and responsible business practices.

• Strengthen alignment with buyer requirements, improve access to markets, and reduce operational and reputational risks.

• Contribute to a more resilient, sustainable, and competitive sugar supply chain.

Senior representatives from sugar mills and allied operations with decision-making authority or direct influence over labour practices and supply chain management.

Four practical modules designed to help participants understand and implement Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD).

1. Key Definitions and Risk Awareness: Understanding salient human rights risks.

2. The OECD HRDD Process: Applying the six-step OECD HRDD framework.

3. Responsible Purchasing Practices: Examining the link between purchasing decisions and labour standards.

4. Action Plan Development: Developing a practical HRDD improvement plan.
